The list below is representative of industries with high hazard exposures or requires coverage we are unwilling to provide. This is not an all inclusive list. Please contact your underwriter for further consultation if you suspect your risk may fall into this category.
Prohibited Industries or Exposures
- Agricultural, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting
- Amusement Parks, Carnivals or Circuses
- Asbestos
- Aviation – includes maintenance operations of any airport or aircraft
- Blasting Operations
- Boat or Ship Building
- Chemical Manufacturing
- Construction of Bridges, Tunnels or Dams
- Demolition of Buildings or Structures in Excess of Two Stories
- Dredging
- Fireworks, Fuses, or any Substance Intended for Use as an Explosive – includes manufacturers; importers; and any risk loading, handling, storing or transporting fireworks, fuses, or explosive substances
- Gas or Lease Operator Work
- Long Haul Trucking – unless incidental exposure
- Manufacture, Production, Refining, Storage, Wholesale Distribution or Transportation of Natural or Artificial Fuel, Gas, Butane, Methane, Propane, Liquefied Petroleum Gases or Gasoline, or Other Gases or Air Under Pressure – does not apply to gasoline at hardware stores, convenience stores and automobile service stations storing gasoline on premises for retail sale
- Mining or Quarrying
- Municipalities
- Nuclear Fission, Fusion, or Handling of Radioactive Materials
- Onshore and Offshore Gas or Oil Drilling Operations, Pipelines or Wells
- Operation of Docks or Wharves
- Professional Employer Organizations (PEOs), Employee Leasing Companies or Operations, or Temporary Employment Agencies
- Public Administration, e.g. Firefighters, Police Officers, Housing Authorities
- Railroad Operations except Sidetrack Agreements
- Risks involving Known Exposure to Dioxin or Polychlorinated Biphenols (PCB)
- Roofing
- Scaffolds – manufacture, sale, rental, lease, erection, transportation or repair
- Shipping
- Shoring, Underpinning or Moving of Buildings or Structures
- Subaqueous (underwater) Operations
- Utilities
Prohibited Coverages
- Any Federal Coverage including but not limited to: Defense Base Act, Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act, Federal Employment Compensation Act, Federal Employers’ Liability Act (FELA), Merchant Marine Act (Jones Act), Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act, Nonappropriated Fund Instrumentalities Act
- United States Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (USL&H)
- Incidental USL&H coverage, i.e., "no exposure", will be considered on an individual risk basis
- Maritime Coverage, Voluntary Compensation Maritime Coverage, or Limited Maritime Coverage
- Rural Electrification Administration Endorsement
- Rural Utilities Service Endorsement
